How To Split A Large Excel File Into Multiple Files
- Sign up - Sign up for your free Gigasheet account. It's free forever.
- Upload - Upload your .XLS or .XLSX file. You can zip large Excel files to save time. After uploading, Gigasheet will automatically decompress and process your file. Next click the file name in your Library to open it in your browser.
- Split - Once open, use Filters to select the rows you'd like in your export as a new sheet. To filter on row count, filter the column name "#", or provide other criteria to select the rows of your choosing. Next, click File > Export to build a zip of the slice of your data. Repeat these steps to build the slices of the file you'd like.
Optionally you can analyze, filter and sort the sheet in Gigasheet or share the file online.
- First create a free account, then simply upload your XLS or XLSX (Excel) file. You can browse for the file from your local machine, or connect to popular cloud storage services like Google Drive, AWS S3, OneDrive, Dropbox, and more. If you have multiple or large Excel files you can zip and upload the group. Gigasheet will automatically decompress your zip, extract the contents and make it available for easy browsing online.
- Once your Excel file has uploaded (and unzipped if necessary), you'll see Gigasheet process and parse the file. Each sheet in the workbook will appear as a separate file in Gigasheet. For exceptionally large files you may see a loading bar while the genetic variation data extraction completes. Gigasheet can support large files - up to 250GB, and 1 billion rows in a single spreadsheet!
- After the file is extracted and the tabular data parsed, you'll see your file appear in your Library. You'll also see the resulting number of rows and columns extracted from the Excel file. Simple click the name of the file to browse it in a tabular spreadsheet.
- Once your Excel file is open for viewing in Gigasheet you can page through the rows of results. You can also use Filters to segment the data into the views your want to export. You can also use built-in data cleanup tools to find duplicates or missing values.
- When you have a view of the XLS you want to download, simply click File > Export when viewing a table. Once the export is complete, click on the newly created zipped CSV file will appear in your Library. Simply click the export to download the converted file to your local machine. You can then open the CSV in Excel as a spreadsheet.
